NCSR will not turn a sheltie away due to age.  Because of this, we tend to get in quite a few seniors.  These are wonderful dogs, well mannered, trained, full of life, and ready to love you. Most times these dogs have come to us because their senior owner had passed away or gone into nursing care facilities. Shelties can live to be 15 years old, so a dog of 9 or 10, or even 12, may have some good years left to share with someone special. In order to help place these dogs we are beginning a senior sheltie adoption program.  As this is a work in progress, we are still working out the details.  For the right applicant, we will discount the adoption fee and may be able to help with expenses of a senior dog.  We also are looking into offering a long-term foster program for dogs over 12, where they will have a home for life but the rescue will assist with (approved) medical expenses.  This is a great opportunity for a senior citizen to foster or adopt a senior dog without concern about vet bills.  Our normal home check and application processes will apply.  Of course, anyone can do not have to be a senior citizen to take advantage of this program.

If you are interested in our senior program, or would be interested in sponsoring one of our seniors to help the program and would like more information, please contact Linda at 410-515-7029.  And thank you for considering one of our senior rescues.
